A Cross-Continental Cricket Challenge
This year, instead of our usual team-building activities, we organized something special for our annual visit from our Swedish colleagues. As cricket enthusiasts ourselves, we proposed a cricket league that would bring together our Indian team with our international guests—Peter Karlsson, Dennis Knudsen, and Mikael Nilsson.
Embracing the spirit of innovation that defines StruEngineers, our Swedish and Danish colleagues enthusiastically accepted the challenge of learning cricket—a game that, much like structural engineering, requires strategic thinking, precision, and teamwork.
Setting the Field for Success
With 36 employees divided into four balanced teams, we transformed our gathering into a professional tournament complete with third-party umpires and scorers to ensure fair play. The venue, Playzen At Mango Tree World near our office, provided the perfect setting for this cross-cultural sporting event.
Just as our precast design projects demand careful preparation and organization, our cricket league required meticulous planning. The six-over format allowed us to complete multiple league matches efficiently, culminating in a championship final between the top two teams.
Building Momentum: The Games Begin
The tournament kicked off at 6:30 PM, slightly behind schedule—reminding us that even the best-laid plans sometimes require adaptability, a principle we embrace in our engineering projects as well.
Our international guests quickly proved themselves on the cricket field, demonstrating exceptional batting, bowling, and fielding skills that surprised and delighted everyone. Much like how they bring fresh perspectives to our engineering challenges, Peter, Dennis, and Mikael brought unexpected talents to the cricket pitch, hitting impressive sixes and making spectacular catches.
New Stars Emerge
The StruCricket League also revealed hidden talents among our team, particularly from newer members like Prafull, Rushikesh, Pratap and Vyanatesh, who showcased remarkable skills during the matches.
This discovery of new talent parallels our company’s approach to structural engineering—we continuously identify and nurture emerging capabilities within our team, ensuring that innovation remains at the heart of our services.
Celebrating Excellence
The tournament culminated in a thrilling final match that highlighted the competitive spirit and camaraderie that define StruEngineers. Ashwini claimed the prestigious Player of the Series title, while our guest Dennis was named Player of the Final Match.
Captain Abhishek proudly lifted the StruCricket League trophy for the winning team, with Amol’s runner-up squad providing formidable competition until the very end. The other two teams, led by captains Siddharth and Nilesh, also displayed exceptional sportsmanship and cricket skills throughout the tournament, contributing significantly to the event’s success.
